Joy Boy
In the last 12 years, I have taken tens of thousands of pictures of my kids. I really enjoy catching all the moments, but lost my desire to scrapbook long ago. Blogging is an inconsistent replacement, and it is always put on the back burner. Now the photos just sit on my hard drive, mostly unedited, not so well organized, and well, just neglected. This afternoon I made a photo CD for a friend, and while I was waiting for the disc to finish, I started to clip through pictures from the last month and found this little treasure. I took it only a week ago, and I don't even remember this shot! I am so glad I found it because if I could pick one picture that is truly Daegan, this is it! This is the face that hovers over me at 3am, and then at 6am. This is the smile that he wears when he leaves his classroom everyday. If I could choose just one word that describes this little light in my life, and the expression on his face in this photo, it would be JOY. I need to print it and hang it where I can see it, to remind me about what really is important. Isn't this our purpose? To find, be, and have joy? I know, like Daegan, I CAN CHOOSE joy everyday. I am glad to have had this little reminder to bring it all into focus.
His birthday was a few days ago, and at the end of the day I asked him how it felt being six all day. He responed, "Mom, being six feels pretty much like being five." I'm glad he's not feeling any sudden changes, because I would miss five too much.
So, I have been thinking. How much lost treasure is in my photo archives? Okay, I don't want to think about it, but I am going to move forward with a commitment to find old treasure or capture some new, at least once a week.
